Anglo American will search for copper in four areas Economy

Anglo American Mining, which is responsible for the Quilaveco project, will focus on finding copper in four regions in Peru, said Diego Ortega, the company’s vice president of corporate affairs and sustainability.

“After four years of building Quellaveco and last year focusing on getting this mining company running at full production, we can now start exploring other opportunities,” he said in an interview with the Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).

The areas where they will be concentrated now are Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Tacna and Huancavelica, which is why they are in the process of requesting concessions.

He added: “We are evaluating the mining rights, to be able to start studying those areas and start studying potential prospects that might be interesting, but we still do not have a specific project in these areas.”

On the other hand, the company revealed that the contributions made by Quellaveco to mining canons and mining revenues in 2023 amounted to S$601 million for the Moquegua region.

In addition, the S$64.9 million has been allocated to the Moquegua Development Fund (FDM), which is used to implement priority works in the three provinces in the region.
