Germany is seeing rapid growth in the installation of balcony solar systems, with more than 400,000 homes incorporating this innovative form of renewable energy generation.
Since the beginning of 2024, more than 50,000 new installations of these mini-PV systems, which typically consist of one or two solar panels, have been installed. This increase brings the total number to more than 400,000, according to recent data issued by the country’s network agency (BNetzA), reported by the German News Agency.
By mid-2023, the number of registered systems had reached 230,000, indicating significant growth in just a few months. It is important to note that the real number may be higher, as it is estimated that many systems have not yet been registered.
A simple and economical solution to save electricity
Porch solar plants represent a relatively simple and accessible solution for both renters and homeowners interested in reducing electricity costs. The ease of installation and economic benefits these units provide make them an attractive option for a wide range of users.
In order to make the installation of these technologies easier, the Grid Agency simplified the registration process for small PV systems in early April. This measure seeks to allow as many people as possible to participate in the energy transition in a simple way.
Contributing to achieving renewable energy goals in Germany
Germany has set an ambitious target of covering 80% of its electricity demand with renewable energy by 2030, prioritizing mainly wind power and photovoltaics.
