Scardone said Lamborghini has identified Thailand as an important market in the Asia-Pacific region, with high growth potential for luxury cars.

Automobili Lamborghini, the Italian manufacturer of luxury sports cars, plans to bring its new electric “hypercar” to Thailand, making its global debut in 2028 as part of efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Francesco Scardoni, Regional Director of Automobili Lamborghini in the Asia Pacific region, said that Lamborghini has been preparing for the launch by developing electric vehicle (EV) technology for years, as part of its plan to achieve carbon neutrality.

Carbon neutrality, which is the balance between carbon dioxide emissions and absorption, is among the campaigns aimed at reducing the rise in global temperatures due to fossil fuels, especially oil that is used in cars that operate with internal combustion engines.

“Lamborghini is aligned with global zero-carbon trends, which are vital for the long-term development of our business,” Scardoni said.

The company intends to convert all of its production lines to manufacturing hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by 2025. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which run on oil and electricity, are considered more environmentally friendly because they help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Lamborghini yesterday launched the Urus SE, its first hybrid version of the Lamborghini super SUV, which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 80%.

The price of this SUV is 24.9 million baht.

Lamborghini sees Thailand as an important market in the Asia-Pacific region, with high growth potential for luxury cars. New customers continue to seek the experience of driving such advanced vehicles.

In 2023, the region saw market growth of approximately 4%, with total sales volume reaching 2,660 units from more than 10,000 units globally.

“Last year, the company set a record of selling more than 10,000 units worldwide, which was an amazing achievement for us,” Mr. Scardowne said.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the leading market is China, followed by Japan, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, India and Thailand.

“Last year, the Indian market had sales of more than 100 units, while the Thai market had less than 100 units. Both markets are showing positive signs,” he said.

Mr. Scardone is not interested in Chinese ultra-luxury cars entering the global market, including Thailand, because they target a different segment and Lamborghini remains a unique ultra-luxury brand with high-quality design that attracts customers.

“Chinese automakers investing in Thailand are gaining market share and posing challenges, but Lamborghini is still not worried,” he said.
