The collaboration will include the introduction of a fleet of 100 electric vehicles into circulation in Spain’s two largest cities, specifically a fleet of 100 Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor Plus units. 50 vehicles will be launched in each city.
The Polestar 2 recently received an update and offers a range of up to 655 kilometers for urban use. On the roads of Barcelona and Madrid, the vehicles will be operated by Vector, a subsidiary of the Cabify group. The initiators estimate that the acquisition will save more than 500,000 liters of fuel and 800 tons of CO2, compared to combustion models.
In addition to the new fleet of taxis, the agreement will also allow companies and freelancers who partner with Cabify in Barcelona or Madrid to purchase Polestar vehicles at a discounted price.
“By acquiring these new 100% electric vehicles, we reaffirm Cabify’s commitment to the city of Barcelona, promoting more efficient and environmentally friendly urban mobility,” explained Javier Dorado, Public Affairs Director of Cabify in Spain. “These types of agreements are very important for our brand because they help us highlight our products as well as contribute to our main objective, which is to promote and accelerate the transition to 100% electric mobility. We are very happy that Cabify customers can appreciate the quality of the Polestar 2,” added Pedro Parra, Commercial Director of Polestar Spain.
Cabify was last reported on in late 2023, when the company raised $110 million to expand into new cities in Latin America and Spain. Madrid wasn’t a new market for the company, but the move is in line with its stated goal of bringing 1,400 electric vehicles to Spain “in the coming years.” Cabify wrote that it currently has “more than 50 million registered users, 1.5 million driver-partners and more than 1,000 employees worldwide.”
