CAF wins $1 million contract to modernize UK rail network

In a significant step for CAF, it was announced that it has won a contract in the UK to carry out the signaling modernization of the country’s entire railway network. This contract, worth £4,000 million (about €4,670 million at the current exchange rate), includes other prominent railway companies around the world.

Network Rail, the body responsible for the UK’s rail infrastructure, revealed that the contract has been split into two pieces, with CAF being part of the second piece with AtkinsRéalis. The total budget of Group 2 is £3 billion, and is allocated to the implementation of digital signaling and the European Railway Control System (ETCS).

These works will extend over the next ten years, as a major transformation of the British railway sector is expected, with the introduction of more advanced technology to improve the efficiency of services. CAF Signaling, CAF’s specialist signaling company, already has a presence in the UK, particularly in implementing ERTMS safety systems on trains.
