Comerciantes FC beat Deportivo Lacomba 1-0 in agonizing fashion as visitors, securing a long-awaited ticket to the semi-finals of the second division promotion qualifiers.
The Iquitos team had previously reported some threats to the football players, but during the match it took place calmly in Huamachuco.
When it seemed that the match would be decided on penalties, goalkeeper Ribera refused to come off and was replaced by Castellanos. This was the tragic breaking point for the local team.
In the next match, a deadly counter-attack by Diego Safadi left two opponents on the ground and he scored in exquisite fashion to score in agony and make the people of Iquitos explode.
Thus, Comerciantes FC made a historic pass to the semi-finals of the promotion play-offs to League 2, where they will face Juan Pablo II in a back-and-forth duel. The winner will advance to the League 2 final, however, and will already receive the long-awaited ticket to League1 Te Apuesta 2025.
