Iquitos: The neonatal intensive care unit was flooded after a leak

Recent heavy rains in Iquitos have caused significant damage, including flooding, in the area Iquitos Support Hospitalespecially in vital fields such as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Maternity and Childbirth Centre.

Water leaked through the ceilings and moved through different hospital rooms, endangering the safety of newborns in the neonatal intensive care room.

Nurses and hospital staff used brooms and buckets to evacuate the water, but the situation revealed serious infrastructure problems.

Health workers have asked Regional Governor Rene Chavez for urgent attention to address this structural problem.

The rain also left several streets in the San Juan Bautista area flooded, making it difficult for motorcycles and taxis to travel.

In sectors such as Bunchana, rainfall led to interruptions in electricity supply, affecting thousands of residents.

Sinamhi warned that the rains would continue in the coming days, accompanied by electric shocks, which could worsen the situation in an area already at risk.
