The National Service for Industrial Education (Senai-RN) launches next Monday (15) the first Faculty of Renewable Energy and Industrial Technologies in Brazil (Faeti). The institution, which will start its activities with a mechanical engineering course, will operate in Natal, with professional training, innovation and applied research of the activity. The Educational Institution Accreditation Law was published by the Ministry of Education in August last year. At launch, details about admission methods, number of places, selection process and start of classes will be presented.
According to Rodrigo Melo, regional director of Senai-RN and Faeti, the idea is to create qualified workers to accompany the growth of the renewable energy industry, especially in Rio Grande do Norte, which leads the country’s wind power generation. In the coming years we should open electrical engineering course, and in that first year we should open some postgraduate courses. The idea is to offer the best possible quality to a group of technology professionals who are fully prepared to develop their activities in the industry,” he says.
Rodrigo emphasizes that college does not necessarily come to fill the gap compared to other educational institutions. However, it brings another educational perspective aimed at integrating into the local industry. “The focus and direction during the five years of the courses will be renewable energy activities. We will open with one course. We do not intend to train thousands of people. Faeti is one of the teaching staff at Senai and Senai is the body created by the industry to work in the industry, developing solutions for the industrial company,” he says. “.
He continues: “In this sense, we always intend to train a small number of people. These people will certainly be highly committed in their knowledge of the needs of the industrial area of Rio Grande do Norte, but people will come from the northeast and other parts of Brazil, and this will generate a professional level for these people.” “People through employment, through entrepreneurship, as well as many other courses that Sinai has focused on the energy sector. This is of great importance to society.”
The decree accrediting the college – the first with this file created in the country – was published almost a year after a positive opinion was issued by the Secretariat for the Regulation of Higher Education and the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anício Teixeira (INEP), linked to the Ministry. The college will be established at the Innovation and Technology (HIT) Center at Senai-RN, in Natal, a complex that already hosts CTGAS-ER and ISI-ER in energy.
Faeti will be introduced from 8am at the Hub at a party for guests on Monday (15). The program will include a press conference and a lecture. Participating in this event are the Regional Director of Senai-RN and the College, Rodrigo Melo, the President of the Confederation of Industries of Rio Grande do Norte (FIern) and the Regional Council of Senai-RN, Roberto Cerquez, and the Vice-President of the Confederation of National Industry (CNI), former President of Fiern. and Faeti’s founder, Amaro Sales de Araujo.
In addition to presentations on Faeti, the program will include a lecture by engineer and entrepreneur Sergio Azevedo, CEO of Dois A Engenharia, who also chairs the Thematic Committee for Renewable Energy (Coere/Fiern), the Civil Construction Industry Association (Sinduscon-RN) and the Cement Products Industry Association RN (Siprocim-RN). It will address the importance of technology, talent generation, energy transition, renewable energy and decarbonisation.
Azevedo has been involved in the construction of wind power generation parks in the states of Bahia, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí, Pernambuco and Ceará. These projects resulted in the production of approximately 8 GW of installed capacity out of a total of 26 GW existing in Brazil by 2023.
Investments
The investment in higher education adds to SENAI’s other areas of work in the field of education, an area in which, in the first seven months of the year, it recorded 16,240 enrollments in various courses.
With regard to services related to technology and innovation solutions provided to the market, the number of services reached 1,604 services, covering a total of 386 companies, of different sizes, in areas such as standards, research, development and innovation.
