A digital artist was inspired by the VW ID. The symbolic concept that recently debuted in China has given birth to a new Scirocco for the electric car era

- This standalone VW Scirocco design is based on the three-door hatch body of its predecessor.
- The design retains the classic three-door hatchback silhouette but features a futuristic look inspired by the VW ID. Code concept.
- The Scirocco is preparing to return in the form of an electric sports car, although it is too early to speculate on its design.
Production of the Volkswagen Scirocco stopped in 2017 without planning a direct successor, leaving car fans eager for its return. Show enthusiast Theottle has revived the model in all-electric form, incorporating contemporary design cues from Volkswagen’s latest design language while maintaining the three-door hatchback body style of its predecessor.
The images are based on the third generation Scirocco, which was discontinued, in an effort to retain its familiar appearance. However, the bodywork has been completely redesigned, using elements from the VW ID. Code concept. The electric crossover made its debut a few weeks ago at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, introducing Volkswagen’s new design language for China-bound electric vehicles.

Up front, the Scirocco ditches its grille, opting for a cleaner, less aggressive look for the EV. The full-width LED headlights and illuminated Volkswagen logo are drawn directly from the SUV concept, along with a slightly redesigned bumper.
At the side profile, the car’s original sculpted bodywork is gone, replaced by sharper fenders and a sharp character line. The wheel arches, side sills and lower fascia of the bumper feature cladding reminiscent of crossovers, a trend that has recently expanded to include more EV body types.

The rear is designed to fit the three-door silhouette, showcasing slim horizontal LEDs, a narrow windshield, a small tailgate and a simple bumper. From this angle, the modern Scirocco resembles a sleeker version of the smaller VW ID.2all hatchback, featuring sporty proportions due to its lower, wider stance.
According to the latest reports, Volkswagen is considering bringing the Scirocco back from the dead in the form of an all-electric sports car. The model is rumored to use a modified version of the PPE architecture, and features dual electric motors and promising sharp driving dynamics.
With no official information about the potential revamp and no sign of development prototypes, all we can do is hope that the final product lives up to the legacy of previous iterations of the Scirocco, dating back to the 1974 original.
