Tesla (Nasdaq: Tesla) on Thursday after the Austin-based company made a rare appearance at the Advanced Clean Technology Show in Las Vegas. The conference setup included demo tours of Tesla Semi for interested parties.
During the presentation, Tesla (TSLA) exec Dan Priestley said that Tesla (TSLA) is building a semi-factory in Nevada that is being ramped up to be ready for customer delivery in 2026 and eventually has a targeted capacity of 50,000 units per year.
“I think there are some narratives that electric heavy trucking is still impossible. You might hear someone say it’s really hard. Well, guess what, it’s really hard. We’ve been doing it, but it’s also definitely worth doing, and we’re not getting into this The industry is taken lightly.”
Priestley said the semi fleet is currently seeing an average of 1.7 kilowatt-hours per mile, including trips with larger-than-expected payloads. He also highlighted the Semi Megacharger network, which he said will give the all-electric Class 8 truck a daily range of 1,000 miles per day. The Tesla Semi is undergoing beta testing with PepsiCo’s (PEP) FritoLay division. PepsiCo (PEP) will receive an additional 50 trucks in its fleet for the pilot program.
