UK-based Calum Engineering and Design Company presents the first working prototype of the Skye electric off-road vehicle.
It is equipped with a 42 kWh battery that provides an estimated range of 170 miles and reaches 60 mph in less than four seconds.
Order books are now open, with prices for Callum Skye ranging between $101,600 and $140,000.
Callum, the British design and engineering company co-founded by Ian Callum, has unveiled its first in-house developed vehicle called Skye. The first working prototype will be unveiled at the Concours on Saville Row in London later this month. First previewed in November 2023, here’s what we can expect from the electric off-roader.
The Skye is powered by a 42 kWh battery that offers an expected range of 170 miles. Callum doesn’t provide power figures but suggests the future buggy could reach 60 mph in less than four seconds. That’s an impressive number, no doubt helped by the featherweight’s 2,535-pound mass. Despite being smaller, performance is comparable to other electric off-roaders, such as the Rivian R1T. Callum says an optional ultra-fast charging battery is available, enabling a full charge in less than 10 minutes.
Futuristic design, compact dimensions
Speaking of size, the Skye is very compact, measuring 159.3 inches from stem to stern. This makes it shorter than the Kia Seltos and just two inches longer than the small Hyundai Venue. With an overall width of 74.8 inches, presence on the road is assured. It’s an exciting creation, resembling a futuristic beach buggy. The shape of the rear window is particularly attractive, as it mimics the wraparound rear glass of the third and fourth generations of Camaro cars.

The interior hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but Callum says the renderings shown here demonstrate the “design intent” of the cabin. From what we can see, the interior will be upscale and feature sporty touches, such as a slim center console that hangs from the dashboard. The automaker notes that several dials control climate settings and other key features. We can also see a three-spoke steering wheel with a red 12 o’clock marker and a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Despite the compact dimensions, Callum says the Sky will have space for up to four passengers. Up front there are two sports seats, while the second row features a “kid-friendly” bench seat. When not in use, the seat can be removed to increase available luggage space. There are no numbers, but the automaker says there is enough storage space for sports equipment or a weekend getaway.

Ian Callum’s engineering company has transformed a dangerous vehicle into a weird and wonderful vehicle worthy of its fame, but only one has been built and will ever be built.
“In order to maximize space, it is essential to keep the interior shapes simple. The interior design goal is incredibly disciplined; we have edited our vision to include only the necessary elements, giving the driver and passengers everything they need while avoiding wasted space. It uses With clean, sophisticated geometry that complements the beautiful shapes on display on the outside, and with the elegant simplicity of the interior, we stay true to the SKYE being a capable and durable vehicle, while delivering an upscale cabin experience.

Order books for Callum Skye are now open, with prices ranging from £80,000 ($101,600) to £110,000 ($140,000). That’s an obscene amount of money, as top-spec models are more expensive than a fully equipped GMC Hummer EV 3X Pickup e4WD. However, this is a designer who cares about aesthetics (Ian Callum has designed some stunning cars, after all) and the Skye features a handcrafted interior with exquisite detailing. We expect more information to be available when Skye is fully revealed on May 22-23.
