“Today we have launched an investigation into Chinese suppliers of wind turbines,” European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a speech at Princeton University in New Jersey, United States.

He added that the research focuses on “the conditions for the development of wind farms in Spain, Greece, France, Romania and Bulgaria.”

In 2022, the European Union adopted tougher mechanisms to defend European industry against increasing threats from both China and the United States, with regard to subsidies.

This investigation was announced after similar EU actions against Chinese manufacturers of solar panels, electric vehicles and trains.

The European Union is seeking to increase its renewable energy capacity, but it needs to overcome its dependence on cheap Chinese wind and solar technology.

Vestager did not provide details about the wind turbine suppliers targeted by the investigation.
