Genesis launches the new GV80 luxury electric SUV
After previewing its first full-size electric SUV with the Neolun Concept in March, Genesis is already working on another electric vehicle.
Genesis plans to start building the new GV80 electric car in the second quarter of 2026, after the start of production of its flagship GV90 (previewed in a Neolun model), which is scheduled for the first half of next year.
According to Genesis, the GV90 features “innovation that goes beyond convention.” In other words, Genesis is looking to take on luxury rivals like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Rivian.
The GV90 will be the first Genesis to use Hyunda’s next-generation “eM” platform. The new platform is expected to reduce costs by 20% while enhancing range, charging and efficiency.
Genesis is ramping up the competition with plans to launch another electric SUV. The new Genesis GV80 will be a mid-sized electric SUV.

The mid-size electric SUV, codenamed JX2, is also expected to be based on the Hyundai eM platform. The new eM is expected to be an upgrade to the existing E-GMP platform, which underpins existing Hyundai (IONIQ 5/6), Kia (EV6, EV9), and Genesis (GV60) electric models.
Hyundai’s new platform is designed to fit all vehicle sizes and will include advanced software and autonomous driving capabilities.

according to Korean car blogthe Hyundai eM platform will provide up to 113.2 kWh from the batteries, boosting the range to about 700 to 800 kilometers (435 to 497 miles).
After next year, all new Genesis models are expected to be fully electric. The luxury brand plans to produce new electric models in Korea and the United States to meet growing demand.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 is already being built at Hyundai’s plant in Alabama, and the automaker’s first electric vehicle and battery plant in the United States is expected to begin production by the end of this year.
Take Electric
Genesis already outperforms luxury competitors in the US market. After overtaking Infiniti in 2022, Genesis aims to achieve even more.
Sales of the luxury brand rose from 7,000 in 2016 to more than 69,000 last year in the United States. This is roughly equivalent to Porsche (75,415), Land Rover (71,727) and Lincoln (81,818).
The new Genesis GV80 electric SUV will compete with the new Porsche Macan EV, Tesla Model Y, Rivian R1S, and other luxury SUVs in the segment.
Information from Cox Automotive It shows that Genesis sold 6,403 electric vehicles in the US last year, outpacing luxury rivals Lexus and Lucid.
Genesis revealed earlier this month that its electric models are now available in 37 US states. The luxury brand offers the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 models.
