Brasilia – Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexander SilveiraHe stated on Tuesday, the 10th of this month, that the government would like to change the current regulation to allow for mixing ratios Biodiesel fuel In diesel it can reach 25%. Under the current rule, legislation only allows this mandatory mixture to reach 15%.
According to Silveira, the change will be implemented through the “Fuel of the Future” bill already before the National Congress. “We want biodiesel in Brazil to be like oil in Saudi Arabia,” he said during the presentation of the proposed decree restructuring the social biofuel stamp.
The Social Biodiesel Stamp is a stamp awarded to industries that source a minimum percentage of biodiesel from family farmers listed in the Bronav (National Family Farming Program). The seal gives the biodiesel producer discounted rates for PIS/Pasep and Cofins, which vary according to the feedstock purchased and the region of purchase.
According to the government, the decree restructuring the social biofuel stamp creates investments amounting to approximately R$740 million in 2024. As of 2025, this value will amount to R$1.6 billion. He pointed out, “By 2026, we expect the number of family farmers in these areas to increase by more than 300%, as we hope to include 14,000 new families in the program.”
Tariff issue
Silveira once again argued that it was necessary to find a solution to the issue of energy tariffs in Brazil. Silvera once again stated that subsidies included in electricity bills penalize energy consumers. “It is necessary to calmly search for a solution to the tariff issue,” he said.
The Minister once again noted that the electricity sector has become “patchwork”, referring to the subsidies on the electricity bill, and also pointed to the current restrictions on access to the free electricity market. Today, only large consumers can negotiate in this environment.
