The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy presents the initial selection of companies…

Morocco continues to make great strides towards its sustainability goal. It is a pioneer in the region, and it occupies a position as one of the countries that are betting the most on these initiatives at the international level. News continues about new sustainable projects, and this time it is one of the projects that is expected to be the cornerstone of solar energy, the giant Noor 3 project, which will hopefully have a capacity of 400 megawatts.

Last Tuesday, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) announced a preliminary selection of companies from which partners for this project will emerge. Participants will ultimately be responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of this third installation in the Noor series. The idea is that when this third is active, the total power capacity will reach 1,600 megawatts.

The list of companies selected as potential candidates was divided into consortia. The first is a company based in the Middle East with great growth expectations in the near future, such as Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, which is headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. It is accompanied by Masdar, in cooperation with the Moroccan Energy Company, based in the Alawite Kingdom.

The Spanish company Acciona Generación Renovable participates in a different consortium, in collaboration with Green of Africa, which is headquartered in Morocco. The third company, which also represents the Kingdom, is the Moroccan Nareva Holding Company, along with the Saudi ACWA Power Company.

In addition, there are federations formed by purely European companies, such as the federation formed by the Spanish Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios and the French Vinci franchises. And others with competitors from the Asian continent, such as the one in which the French company EDF Renovelables SA participates with the Japanese company Mitsui & Co. To which we must also add one of the main players and the strongest companies in the entire pre-selection list, Iberdrola International Renewals SA

The idea of this huge project is not only that it serves as a source of energy for the entire country, but that it represents a step forward in progress towards sustainability. Morocco is working hard to achieve this goal and wants to make the Nour Midelt 3 one of its flagship ships. To do this, in addition to having a wide production margin, it will also have an energy storage capacity of 400 megawatts.

Rabat also wants to enhance private sector participation through this type of initiative, whether from Morocco or at the international level, similar to many of the examples mentioned.. The statement issued by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy confirms that “with Noor Midelt 3 joining the existing Noor Midelt 1 and Noor Midelt 2, the entire complex is poised to emerge as a global force in solar and renewable energy storage capabilities.”
