They develop photovoltaics using small solar farms in the Caribbean and Andes – PV Magazine Latin America

Colombian startup Unergy claims to currently have 1,000 small farms, of which 18 are already funded and in the pipeline, and 100 are in the financing stage.

Unergy, a Colombian startup specializing in financing renewable energy projects, announced the implementation of its first agricultural projects in Colombia from small solar farms located in areas of the country with solar radiation levels of more than 1,800 kWh/kWh, with a capacity said to be The inclination is less than 10 degrees, specifically, in the lands near the Atlantic coast, in the Caribbean, in the north of the country, and in the low valleys of the Andean region, in the centre.

In response to your inquiry Photoelectricity MagazineUnergy confirms that it currently deploys three projects in various stages of development, but its portfolio already has a pipeline of 1,000 small farms, “of which 18 have already been funded and are in the pipeline, and 100 are in the financing process.”

The first of the three agricultural projects is located in Mompox, Bolivar Province. “There we grow patella and chili peppers, together with a local producer who already has experience in these products,” the statement said.

The second is in La Paz, Santander province, “where we studied the soil and determined its suitability for growing cucurbits such as watermelon or watermelon, and we are looking for alliances with peasant communities in the region,” they add from Non-Energy.

Finally, the third project – the only one operational so far – is in San Diego, Cesar County, “where starting this April we will plant 5,000 cantaloupe plants with the help of a local farmer, while managing the crops with a preventive approach that will allow to reduce the use of agrochemicals.

Regarding the installed capacity of the projects, they are unified projects on areas of 2 hectares, each containing 2,500 solar panels “using patented solar tracking technology that increases efficiency by 15%.”

The panels in question are Longi Hi-MO 7 with 610W power and 22.8% efficiency. In this way, it is added that “all projects have an installed capacity of 990 kilowatts.”

From Unergy they highlight that each small farm project is selected by a producer, cooperative or agricultural community “We give them the possibility to use the area between the solar panels for crops, and we provide technical assistance at all stages and farming cycles.”

They specify that “the profits obtained from agriculture belong entirely to these actors.”
