Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) and Portable Electric, a provider of clean energy portable and mobile power plants, launched the PU130 mobile battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo (ACT Expo), in Las Vegas. The mobile charging unit, designed, engineered and built by Portable Electric, allows rapid recharging of electrified construction equipment.
The PU130 has a storage capacity of 130 kWh and integrates Portable Electric’s 48-volt direct current fast charging (DCFC) technology to allow rapid recharging of electrified equipment at a charging rate of 20 kW. The unit also simultaneously provides 40 kilowatts of power on the job site to support tools, lighting, office trailers and more.
Additionally, the PU130 is hybridized with other power generation systems to provide extended power, allowing continuous operation with minimal environmental impact. Seamless connectivity with the Neuron operating system allows for remote monitoring of unit performance, optimization of charging schedules, and scheduling of proactive maintenance.
Volvo CE is adding the PU130 to its product range. “The PU130 represents a major milestone in our journey towards sustainable construction practices,” said Ray Gallant, Vice President, Volvo Construction Equipment. “By partnering with Portable Electric, we are providing cutting-edge solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations.”
“We are extremely proud to partner with Volvo Construction Equipment to bring the PU130 to market,” added Keith Marett, CEO of Portable Electric. “This first-of-its-kind unit is a testament to our team’s dedication to helping reduce the use of carbon-intensive fuels on construction sites around the world.
“By removing a major adoption barrier, electrical equipment users can now reduce downtime and increase their productivity with our rapid recharging technology.”
